Beauty Services FAQ

Does cosmetic tattooing hurt?

To some degree there can be minor pain during the procedure, everyone’s tolerance will be different. I use topical numbing cream throughout the entire procedure. If you are a regular smoker the anesthetic will not last as long. I highly recommend not having this procedure done during your menstrual cycle or under the influence of marijuana as this often decreases your pain tolerance.

How many microblading treatments do I need?

Two sessions booked 6-8 weeks apart for most people is adequate. In some cases, a third session will be required. The third session is not included in the price and will be an additional cost.
How often will I need a microblading touch-up?

Everyone is different in how frequent they will require touch-ups. Everything from skin type to lifestyle will affect the longevity of your cosmetic tattoo. I recommend regular color boosts annually for brows.. Fills are only booked before the area is 50% faded or within 24 months of your last service, whichever occurs first.

Why do I need to have another appointment after my initial cosmetic tattoo procedure?

This is a perfecting session. I will evaluate how you’ve healed and how the skin has held the pigment and make minor adjustments to ensure your cosmetic tattoo looks it’s best. Touch up appointments are made no sooner than 6 weeks after the initial session and are complimentary up to 12 weeks after the initial session.

What is the long-term care for cosmetic tattooing?

Applying an SPF daily is recommended, especially during the summer months as the sun and any type of tanning will prematurely fade your cosmetic tattoo. An oil-free SPF is highly recommended. Any type of exfoliants such as chemical peels, laser treatment, abrasive manual exfoliation, and serums or moisturizers containing retinol, glycolic, salicylic, or lactic acids (BHA’s and AHA’s) will also fade your cosmetic tattoos and should be avoided over the brow area.

What happens if I stop getting tattooed?

In most cases, the pigment will start to fade and shrink away over time. It can take years to completely fade from the skin and in some cases removal will be required. The more often you are tattooed the longer it will last in the skin.

Can I get tattooed if I'm breastfeeding?

No. I cannot perform any microblading, tattooing, or henna procedures if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can I get tattooed if I'm on Accutane?

No. You must have discontinued Accutane for a minimum of one year before you are eligible for cosmetic tattooing.

How do I know if I'm not a candidate for cosmetic tattooing?
If you are under the age of 18.
If you are currently pregnant or nursing.
If you have taken Accutane during the past year.
If you have a history of keloids or hypertrophic scarring.
If you are currently undergoing chemotherapy.

I require a doctors note clearance before performing any cosmetic tattooing procedures:

If you are a diabetic.
If you have epilepsy.
If you have a pacemaker or major heart problems.
If you’ve had an organ transplant.
If you have any heart conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, poor general health, or currently have any illness that compromises the immune system.
If you have any skin irritations, Eczema, or Psoriasis near the treated area (rashes, sunburn, acne, etc.).
If you have any viral infections and/or diseases.

Is your equipment safe?

Yes! I am Alberta Health Services approved. I only use single-use, disposable supplies. My studio-space is disinfected and all material is safely disposed before and after each client.

What is the difference between cosmetic tattooing and henna?

Henna is a non-permanent way to tint your brow hair and the skin around to create a new shape. It can address symmetry as well as sparseness. It is very gentle, not painful, and is a great option for people who cannot undergo a cosmetic tattoo procedure or want to see what the brows will look like before committing to a cosmetic tattoo. I do not recommend this service for people with no brow hair, oily or mature skin. I cannot perform this service on pregnant women.

How long does henna last?

Depending on skin type, skincare and lifestyle henna can last up to 2 weeks on the skin and 6 weeks in the brow hair.

What is a lash lift?

Lash lifting is a technique designed to curl the lashes to give you longer-looking, low maintenance lashes that can last for 6 to 8 weeks.

How do I prep for a lash lift treatment?

Please arrive at your appointment completely free of any eye makeup. If you wear contacts it is HIGHLY recommended that they are removed during the procedure.

Can I wear makeup after my lash lift?

Yes, if you wish to make your lashes even fuller, a non-waterproof mascara is advised.

I have glaucoma, can I have this procedure?

Yes! If ever in doubt always consult with your physician.

I've recently had Lasik surgery, can I have this procedure done?

Yes, but you need to wait at least 6 months. As always, please consult with your physician.

Who are your services not good for?

Chronic dry eye, conjunctivitis, damaged lashes or lashes with gaps (this treatment may make the gaps more noticeable), active eye infections of any kind, trichotillomania (habitual pulling out of lashes), recent chemo treatments (you will need to wait at least a year from your last treatment). When in doubt, always consult with your physician.

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination will allow you to re-position the brow hairs. It’s great to achieve a fluffier, fuller brow or if you have unruly brow hairs you wish to tame. I compare this treatment to using a clear brow gel.

I have very sensitive skin, can I still have brow lamination done?

I do not recommend that people with sensitivities or any skin conditions have this service done as it can cause irritation to the skin.

Why can I not book brow lamination with brow henna?

In short, the chemicals used in Brow Lamination do not jive with henna and can produce unpredictable results, including hair loss. I can do a traditional brow tint with the lamination service.
